Lab 8/23 -- Introductory Lab

1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)

1

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

4

3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)

5

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

I think this lab is really well put together. As an introductory exercise, it is very nice being able to work in the website and arrange it in a hands-on manner.

3

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

3

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

As an open-ended research bound activity, I think that this lab is a nice exercise for diving into more of the "nitty-gritty" of UAS work. This exercise would develop well in partners. Partners would allow for more creative development, and the ideas would bounce off of one another to generate more detail regarding UAS relations.

2

2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

I think that an expansion of this lab later on would be really good. A) so that we can elaborate on new or existing ideas to create a more detailed DACUM, and B) to insert graphics and add design to our models to make it more visually appealing

4

2

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

The activity did not seem very beneficial in my opinion. It was nice to use the class time to work with peers on solving issues, but it seemed like a very baseline activity that could have been a lab in an earlier class.

3

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

With experience in flying this air frame, this lab was a nice and easy way to get out in the field for the first time this year. I would like to see comparison among other student's checklists before going out into the field to collaborate on a safest option. This will allow students to improve their checklists before testing, just in case they missed something.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

Hands-on lab approaches. I do not retain information well through long books or articles, I would much rather take lecture notes than dive into a book.

I believe that doing this over a two week period would be beneficial because then we would be able to dive deeper into the software's power.

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

As mentioned in my last review, a 2-week lab would be beneficial. This second week of the lab was helpful as I predicted, finding new uses for the GIS software was very nice, and having Dr. Christina Hupy there to teach us was also very beneficial

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

I think the annotated bibliography was the perfect way to go about this activity, it not only helped me learn about what I wanted to research for my capstone project, but also helped me learn what an annotated bibliography was and how to create one

5

4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

It was nice being able to work through the process ourselves, but I wish that Dr. Hupy was there to help answer questions we had during lab time. Leaving during the lab caused us to take longer on the process than was necessary I believe.
